Caring for the American Eskimo is quite simple and easier than most people think, being a all white long hair dog. The Eskie can play outside in the rain and mud and when dry the dirt will come off when they shake. This is due to the natural oil that repels soiling. They also don't have the odor problem that many long hair breeds have. The Eskie males shed their coat once a year, in the spring when "They blow their coats". By brushing regular during this time will reduce the shedding. Females will shed a 2nd time usual 1-2 months after their heat cycle. Health
