Taking your eskie to the beach can be fun for both of you. There are few things to you must do

  • Make sure you take a umbrella for shade, you know how you feel when you get sunburned. Eskies even with long coats they can become sunburned.
  • Have plenty of  ice cold water, for your dog to drink. Don't let your eskie drink the water from the bay or the ocean. They can become dehydrated just like we can.
  • Never use any type of sun lotion on your eskie. There are different sunscreens for dogs on the market. Just lightly spray on the coat.
  • Remember the sand is very hot and can burn the pads on the dogs. You can purchase booties or carry your eskie. You know how hot the sand is to your bare feet.
  • When you get home wash your eskie to remove the salt and sand from the coat. Use of a protein treatment conditioner is best as it will put back in the coat the protein, that has come out of the coat due to the salt water. If you do not wash your dog this will make the skin very dry and the coat will be a mess as well and some discolor may happen.
